Dryer disconnect                   $19.00

Go to the main electrical panel box and turn off the breaker switch.  If you're lucky, the breaker will be labeled.  If not guess - It should be a 40 amp breaker.  Now, go to the dryer and place a moving pad or a piece of old carpet in front of the dryer.  Lift the front end of the dryer onto the pad, pull the dryer out just enough to get behind it.  Be careful not to pull out the plug or the dryer vent line.  Hopefully, the floor is nice and dry not damp.  You'll need a non-contact voltage tester.  Place the tester against the wire to see if its hot.  Voltage testers are a handy tool but not 100% accurate.   If your line is hot, start the process over.  Pick a different breaker and cut the power. When you get a cold reading, proceed.  Grab the 220 volt plug and pull straight back.  Its a good idea to put your left hand in your back pocket when you do this.  If you get a power hit and your left hand is in your back pocket, you may live, where as if you grab the cold water faucet or other metal you make a electrical circuit.  Its all over!!

Ok, you've pulled the 220 volt plug out of the receptacle.  You'll need a two prong electrical tester.  Push one probe into the left eye and one into the right if the power is out you'll receive no reading.  If its hot you'll show 220 volts.  Its important to make sure the power is cut to this line.  You don't want some one with damp hands or feet touching this outlet or a damp animal sniffing around it.

Now your power is off, go back to your panel box and tape the breaker off. Next, disconnect the dryer vent line.  Most are secured with a c-clamp worm gear.  It's easier if you have a power screw driver.  Loosen and remove.  Next make sure the dryer is on your pad and pull all the way out.  Next take a non sticky residue tape and tape the dryer door shut.   Tape the electrical cord to the back of the dryer.  You should have a wet/dry vacuum to clean up the area.  Excess lent build up can be a fire hazard. This is the time to vacuum out the lent that may have accumulated in the dryer vent at the back of the dryer and also the line itself  that runs outside.  You're ready to move the dryer!!

Washer disconnect                     $19.00

Dryer should be disconnected first:

Go to the main electrical panel box.  Newer homes will have an electrical breaker assigned to the washer.  Flip the breaker to the off position.  If no breakers are labeled you will have to guess, many homes have more than the washer on one circuit.  Flip  a Breaker off.  You'll need a non contact voltage tester.  Place the tester against the wire to test.  If the tester starts beeping, the cord is still hot.  Start over.

Non contact voltage testers are not 100% accurate.  Pull the washer plug out from the receptacle.  You'll need a two prong hot electrical tester.  Insert the prongs into the outlet  If its still hot you'll get a voltage reading.   Not good.   Go back to the electrical panel and keep at it until you kill the power to that outlet.

Next disconnect the hot/cold water lines, there's always the possibility of having water spraying or leaking so make sure the electrical is off. Turn the hot and cold water faucets to the off position (left).

Place a moving pad in front of the washer, lift and shimmy out until you can get the front feet unto the pad.  Slide out and position all four feet unto your pad.  Slide the washer all the way out.  Remove the hot and cold water hose from the faucets.   Place the hose into the washer tub.  Tape electrical cord to the back of the washer.  Tape washer door shut if front loading.  Use a wet/dry vacuum to clean up area.

Refrigerator w/water disconnect service

 under sink     $99.00

under house  $129.00

Go to the main electrical panel box.  Newer homes will have a single electrical breaker assigned to the fridge.  Flip the breaker to the off position.  If no breakers are labeled you'll have to guess, many homes have more than the fridge on one circuit.  Flip a breaker off.   You'll need a non contact voltage tester.  Place the tester against the wire to test.  If the tester starts beeping, the cord is still hot.  Start over, until power test is cold.  Non contact voltage testers are great but not 100% accurate.  Pull the fridge plug out from the receptacle.  You'll need a two prong hot electrical tester.  Insert the prongs into the outlet.  If its still hot you'll get a voltage reading.   Not good.  Go back to the electrical panel and keep at it until you kill the power to that outlet.  You don't want to end up standing in water with that outlet hot.

Now the powers off.

Place a moving pad in the front of the fridge.  Remove the front floor grill and look for a water condensation pan.  Lift and pull out.  Dump the contents into the sink  It can be quite smelly so run hot water in the sink after you dump the pan.  Replace the pan and grill.  You may need to tape the grill in place for transport.

Now, work the fridge out until you can see how much water line you have.  Check it out.  If you're lucky the water line tracks to the underneath of the sink to the cold water line.  There should be a T shaped valve, turn it to the right to cut off.  The water cut off valve for the fridge water line is sometimes under the house where its connected to a cold water line.  You'll need to crawl underneath the house until you find where the ice maker waterline is connected into the household cold water line.  find the T valve and turn it to the right to cut off the icemaker water supply line.

O.K. the waters off!

You can now disconnect your water supply line at the back of the fridge.  Have a bucket ready to drain the water out of the line.  Use a wet / Dry vac to pick up water spillage and clean the area.  Tape the fridge doors shut for moving.  Tape excess water line and electrical cord to back of fridge.  If you have fittings for your ice maker, plastic bag them and tape them to the back of the fridge.

Now move it out!

Range disconnect service                   $29.00

With 220 Volt electrical Service.  You want to disconnect the electrical power before you start moving around the range.  It carries 220 volts of power you don't want arcing and sparking.  Go to the main electrical panel box.  The breaker should be clearly marked "Range".  Flip the breaker to the off position.

Now place a moving pad or a piece of old carpet in front of the range.  Lift the front end of the range onto the pad working the range out just enough to get the electrical plug, its usually very close to the floor.  You'll need a non contact voltage tester.  Place the tester against the wire to see if its hot.   If it starts chirping loudly, the cord is still hot, go back to your electrical power box and start over.  When you get a cold reading proceed by carefully grabbing the 220 volt plug and pull straight back.

It's always a good idea to put your left hand in your back pocket when you do this.  If you get a power hit you may live, where as, if your hand is on the range or other metal you create a electrical circuit.  Bye Bye...

O.K. you've pulled the 220 volt plug out of the receptacle.  You'll need a two prong electrical tester.  Push one probe into the left eye and one into the right eye.  If the power is off, you'll not receive a voltage reading.  If its hot you'll show 220 volts.

It's important to make sure this power is off.  You don't want someone with damp hands or feet touching this outlet or a damp animal sniffing around.

Tape the Range cord securely to the back of the range.  Tape the oven door shut.

Does your range have a grease trap?  If so, they need to be cleaned prior to moving and storage.

Take a  dry/wet vac and clean the area.  Position the range on moving pads and pull completely out.

Move It!

Window A/C unit disconnect service                          $19.00

On 110 Volt electrical Service

Window A/C unit disconnect service                          $59.00

On 220 Volt electrical  or special outlet Service

Its a good idea to start with the electrical disconnect.  Go to the main electrical panel box.  If your unit is a smaller window a/c its most likely plugged into a 110 circuit and may not be clearly marked.  If you have a large window unit its most likely on a 220 volt circuit.  It should be clearly marked in your panel box.  Flip the breaker to the off position. You'll need a non contact voltage tester.  Place the tester against the receptacle itself.  If it starts chirping the receptacle is still hot, go back to the panel box and start over.  When you get a no power reading pull the plug out.

You'll need a two prong electrical tester.  Push each prong into a separate eye.   If the power is off you'll not receive a voltage reading .  If the unit is 110 on a multiple circuit you'll need to power it back up after the move to use that circuit.  If its 220 volts service, leave the breaker in the off position after your move, for safety.

Now the power is off.

Place a large moving pad or old piece of carpet in front of the a/c unit, a dolly nearby.

Take a close look a the window area.  Are both sashes and window panes there?  You don't want to take out the unit to discover you need a window also.  Our disconnect service does not include window repair.

Its a good idea to have a screw gun, a hammer, nail puller and putty knife handy.  Most windows have been nailed or screwed shut. If its been painted, you'll need to run a putty knife between the widow frame and the window to break the seal.

Now place a ladder outside underneath the a/c unit.  You don't want it to just fall out.  As you inspect the window you're looking for spots that have been nailed or screwed in the window frame.  Remove making sure someone is supporting the unit.  Gently push up the window just enough to move it.  Depending on the size of the unit it can take two to four people to lift out the unit and set it on the pad.  Have a wet / dry vac handy as its not unusual to have water, rust, dirt, leaves etc... Clean and load.
